ICELAND

Date: July 6 - 13, 2024

Note: Iceland is an active volcanic island. If an eruption is occurring at the time of our visit, we will adjust our plan accordingly to safely witness the eruption, if possible

July 6, Day 1:

  • This will be a day to rest and orient after your long travels!

  • I will meet you at Keflavik International Airport and transport to the hotel in Reykjavík.

  • Overnight at Reykjavík.

July 7, Day 2:

  • Start our day off relaxing in the famous Blue Lagoon!

  • Begin the Golden Circle!

  • We will visit Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, geysir geothermal area, Kerid Crater, and an evening hike to Brúarfoss Waterfall!

  • Each site offers unique photographic opportunities from landscape to long exposure photography.

  • Overnight near Selfoss, Iceland.

July 8, Day 3:

  • The adventure really picks up today!

  • We visit the Secret Lagoon for an early morning relaxation session in a natural geothermal pool

  • Onwards to the Highlands! Haifoss, Sigoldufoss, and more waterfalls! The Highlands are only accessible during the summer months after the roads have cleared.

  • We'll also visit Ljótipollur, a special treat, especially for drone photography and videos!

  • This day will feature quite a bit of driving, some hiking, and plenty of extraordinary Icelandic landscapes

  • End our evening relaxing in the picturesque town of Vik!

July 9, Day 4:

  • After a busy few days, we will slow down a little and enjoy the area around Vik.

  • If weather permits and you are interested, we may be able to hike on top of a glacier and even possibly visit an ice cave!

  • We will visit the multiple sites located around Vik to include Skogafoss waterfall & enjoy the beautiful Black Sand Beaches to include Reynisfjara!

July 10, Day 5:

  • After slowing down and enjoying the area around Vik, we get busy again!

  • We will visit unique Icelandic locations along the eastern coast to include Diamond Beach, the Glacier Lagoon, and Svínafellsjökull. Depending on the time and weather, you may opt to kayak in the lagoon next to glaciers where you will likely spot seals!

  • We will overnight in Hofn, near Vestrahorn, one of my favorite landscapes in Iceland!

July 11, Day 6:

  • We will enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn along the east coast. Here, while not guaranteed, you may also spot nesting Atlantic puffins!

  • On our journey back toward Vik we will stop and hike to Svartifoss, another iconic Icelandic waterfall!

  • We will overnight in Vik once more. For sunset, we could choose to re-visit areas around Vik for prime photography opportunities to include the church in Vik or any of the nearby beaches!

July 12, Day 7:

  • We hit the road to Kirkjufell! Our goal is to be in Kirkjufell when the sun is low on the horizon for prime colors!

  • After a long day of traveling and enjoying the Kirkjufell region, we will head to Reykjavík for one last night. Flights home will be the next day.

July 13, Day 8:

    • Light windbreaker/waterproof jacket

    • Thermal pullover

    • Warm gloves and wool cap

    • Hiking pants/long comfortable pants

    • Long socks

  • Sleep mask! Midnight sun might make it difficult to sleep. Bring a comfortable sleep mask

  • I always bring ear plugs with me just in case...you never know if birds will be outside our windows keeping you awake!

  • Waterproof hiking boots

  • Extra shoes/boots to change into if your primary pair get soaked

  • Bathing suit for the lagoons

  • Flip flops for the lagoons

  • Rain coat if you have one
